Story Published in World Literature Today

I am psyched to announce the publication of my story “Home Affairs” in the magazine World Literature Today. Run by Oklahoma University, WLT has been in publication for some eighty-odd years and is a hotbed of exciting world literature. I’m slightly biased, but I think it’s the strongest publication of world literature in the US. So it’s a real honor!

The story follows a father and son as they attempt to navigate the labyrinth of the immigration system in South Africa. It is based on my experiences working and living in Cape Town. One of the themes is the stereotypes of Nigerians in South Africa — the same such stereotypes that appear in the film District 9.

I also wrote a book review of Ha Jin’s The Writer as Migrant in the same issue.
